Success Stories and Testimonials

On average, the students I work with jump up to 2 grades during tutoring. However, at Open Doors Online English Tutoring, I’m passionate about defining success in a much broader way. It’s about how students’ confidence grows, feeling fulfilled and more in control from a positive learning experience, being inspired to be their best self and ultimately, about securing their next steps so that doors in life remain open, not closed.

To help measure the success of my mission to keep doors open for my students, I’ve collated success stories and testimonials to showcase their journeys. Additionally, you can see the most commonly used words my students choose to describe me in the word cloud.

What Makes Me Different to Other Tutors - in the Words of Parents

“The way you connected personally with my Dillon. You didn’t just teach the subject — you inspired confidence, made the lessons enjoyable, and showed genuine care for his progress. Your ability to explain things clearly, adapt to his needs and make him feel comfortable made all the difference.” – Rakhi, parent of a Year 11 student

“The reviews at first then the initial meeting. Every time I meet a tutor I behave as if I was my brother and if they were teaching me. You had the things I thought my brother needed: patience, clear communication, enthusiasm and you could convey all of that with structure.” – Shay, guardian of a Year 11 student

“Motivated, caring about students and parents, the follow up, responsible and reliable.” - May, parent of a Year 11 student

"Your commitment to helping Conor, the way you talked to him, your patience and excellent subject knowledge. It is obvious that you have a real talent in the subject area." - Julie, parent of a Year 11 student

"You have strong academic qualifications from reputed universities. You are kind and willing to help." - Heidi, parent of a Year 11 student

"You always assign appropriate homework and have a clear teaching plan." - Maggie, parent of a Year 11 student

Testimonials

Honest feedback underpins everything I do. At the end of every lesson, I ask my students to reflect on their experience and what they've taken away from the lesson. It's vital they feel comfortable being honest and I use their feedback to adapt my teaching. Additionally, I invite parents/guardians and students to share general feedback throughout the year so that my service evolves with my students.

Since our daughter started with Emily at the beginning of Year 6, her skills, knowledge and confidence have grown phenomenally. She was really struggling at school with all aspects of English, but Emily's supportive, kind, calm and knowledgeable interventions have meant that she is going into her SATs week feeling good and able to reach her full potential. She has also found a new interest and passion for English. In the run up to the SATs, Emily filled in knowledge gaps and did practise papers under exam conditions, helping my daughter to prepare for the experience of being tested in timed conditions. This really helped reduce anxiety. We can't thank Emily enough and will definitely continue at secondary school. I would really recommend her for any child doing Year 6 SATs as it turned a potentially stressful experience into a rewarding one.
