Welcome to Open Doors Online English Tutoring
I'm Emily, founder of Open Doors Online English Tutoring with QTS and a PGCE in Secondary English from the University of Cambridge. I have been tutoring since 2022 and became a qualified English Teacher in 2024.
I know what it’s like to be constantly seeking a better education, to have the desire to broaden your horizons and be fired every day with the belief that nothing is off limits. This is my experience, my educational story. My education as a teenager was shaped in Cornwall in the state school sector and I grew up with a determination to experience Russell Group universities and Cambridge and be empowered to take my life where I wanted it to go. I know how it can feel to go through such a journey without other people around you who have taken the same path. At Open Doors Online English Tutoring, my mission is to inspire the next generation to aspire and to have the confidence to embark on an unforgettable journey of grit, determination and self-discovery – wherever that takes them. It’s my pleasure to be the point of contact for my students that I would have loved growing up myself.
I’m based in Cornwall (though I teach solely online) and so I have local knowledge of education within the South West, having both been educated here and taught at grammar school in Plymouth before transitioning to full-time tutoring. However, my reach doesn’t end here. I’ve also taught in London and Cambridge as well as tutoring across the UK and internationally. I’ve chosen to work online to drive my mission of transforming education for all forward. Additionally, whilst my own educational experience has provided a unique insight into the challenges faced by today’s state school pupils and fired a desire to ensure they aren’t left behind, I find it immensely rewarding to work with pupils from all kinds of schools, including grammar and independent schools. We all have our individual challenges and goals; I love tutoring because its very flexibility is the key to putting pupils on the path to progress.
I'm committed to making tutoring more appealing, accessible and affordable for all so that my students can keep their doors open for the future. To support this mission, I have created flexible ways to engage with tutoring to suit different needs and budgets.
I'm also a passionate reader, reflected through my involvement as a Teacher Judge for the 2025 UKLA Book Awards. It is a pleasure to support my students to discover new books that ignite their passion. If you're looking to discover new books, check out my Recommended Reads on Instagram and Facebook.
